review on heaven stories pablo nerudo
Now, this pablo nerudo translation brings you into the spanish language and allows you to feel what the author is saying. In fact, the poems have more meaning reading them in english becuase of the usage of adjectives. Numeral I and II show good description use in english translation. The english translation seems so much fuller and descriptive opposed to the spanish version.

HEAVEN STONES
Jacketti is the best at translating this nobel prize winner's work. All the hard work Dr. Jacketti has ben doing her whole life has really payed off. Her traslations in heaven stone are great she is always impressing me with all the work she has done. I'm very privleged to have her as my teacher.

Heaven Stones, translated by Jacketti
Jacketti shows real talent in not just translating the words of Pablo Neruda, but bringing each word and phrase to life. An extraordinary find for the reader of this Nobel Prize winning writer. Everone should enjoy it.

High Hopes: The Clinton Presidency and the Politics of Ambition
Published in Hardcover by New York University Press (March, 1996)
Author: Stanley A. Renshon
Average review score:

Slow, but in-depth
I read this book while reading Clinton on Clinton at the same time, and found this one to be much more negative. The pyschology of Clinton is interesting, but at time it get a little to in-depth for somebody wanting to know about politics and not childhood lessons that were learned. It talks about Clinton's mother, which is interesting to hear. If you want an overview of Clinton, don't read the book, if you feel like you need to know evrything, read it.

A Pleasant Surprise
I had never head of this book before I spotted it on the shelf of my local bookstore. But after reading it, I was surprised that it hadn't received more attention and praise. As far as the Clinton books go, this is the few non-partisan works you will find. Further, it is packed with information and original analysis. David Maraniss's biography is still the best on this subject but Mr. Renshon's book is close behind. He complements Maraniss by offering psychological insights and then applying these to Clinton's first term in office. The result is a clever book that will leave the reader more informed and enlightened about this enigmatic president.

The Reason for Bill Clinton's Behaviour Made Clear
I bought this book because I heard a talk by the author on C-Span summarizing the book, and I had been puzzled by Bill Clinton's behavior. This book gets to the root of his behavior and why he does what he does, and why he does it the way he does. Part of the book is devoted to the real history of Clinton's young life, and part to the analysis of recorded behaviours in his political life. The combination truly clarifies what is going on. Stanley Renshon is Professor of Political Science at CUNY with a specialty in Psychology of Political Behavior, and does a fine job in this book.

Initiation of the World
Published in Paperback by Red Wheel/Weiser (December, 1994)
Authors: Veras Alder and Vera Stanley Alder
Average review score:

Enlightening
I did not read her first book, however, after reading this book and being interested in alternative thought for many years, I found this book most interesting and enlightening. It gives me hope about a future unknown and deep inner confirmation of of who where and why I am. There is much to look forward to and feel confident about. Many thanks to Vera for bringing such a book to enlighten the dreary mind.

Further Spiritual Insights
This is an extremely confusing book for one who has not spent anytime studying and practicing spiritual doctrines. I myself found the various topics especially the 'The Sun Rays' & 'The Hierarchy' to be extremely hard to understand and grasp initially. I would suggest to readers to read her first book 'Finding of the Third Eye' and Paul Brunton's books in the order listed 'Search in Secret India', 'The Secret Path', 'Search in Secret Egypt' & 'The Quest of the Overself'. Then put his teachings into practice before reading this book.

The author splits the book up into two parts - 'Review of Spiritual Science' & 'Review of Material Science'. The explanation provides one who has studied spiritual matters a sigh of relief and an understanding as to why spiritualism and science are at an impasse with one another, with each failing to recognize the importance of the others work. She also explains surely but slowly how science is starting to validate the 'Wisdom of the Ages'.

'The Initiations of Man' chapter give us an understanding of the various Initiations into illumination. Reading this chapter all of us will be able to relate to a particular stage that we are at, and where we are heading. 'The Initiations of the World' chapter provides us with a deeper understanding of evolution and God's 'Plan for Creation'. She explains how the mineral kingdom is worked upon by the plant kingdom, which is in-turn worked on by the animal kingdom, in turn worked upon by man. Each inflicts 'Pain' on the other by using them, thereby transmuting them into higher vibration.

She also touches briefly the evolution of the various races and their purposes in 'Plan for Creation' with focus on the Atlanteans, the Indians, the Chinese, the Japanese the Aryan-race and the Jews.

Teachings of the Ancient Wisdom
In her second book (after "The Finding of the Third Eye"), Vera Stanley Alder reveals the teachings of the Ancient Wisdom. She condenses the teachings to reveal many aspects of the esoteric knowledge and Initiation (including Alice Baileys' "Seven Rays").This book is mandatory reading for those seeking esoteric truth. Further recommended reading are the books- "ZELATOR"; "KYBALLION"; and all the books of Rudolph Steiner and Alice Bailey. Seekers of esoteric knowledge and truth can also join the Rosicrucians (AMORC), for further advancement.

March Madness
Published in Paperback by Sterling House Publishers (February, 1999)
Author: Stanley Wagner
Average review score:

The inside story on athletics and academics.
This book is an insider's view of academics and athletics at the University level. On the surface, the story is about the conflict a talented young faculty woman experiences when she finds a premier student-athlete guilty of cheating on an exam, and the subsequent resolution of that situation. However, the real story is about the behind-the-scenes politics that take place in the administration. Written by an insider, it reveals just how administrators and trustees view the AAUP, faculty, and the business of athletics. As a faculty member myself, it is eye-opening reading. However, this is not a dry treatise. The politics of sport is embedded in the context of a moving love story between the new faculty woman and an older, established distinguished professor. The characters are complex and genuine and the story has a feel of authenticity. Furthermore, the writing style is such that I could hardly put the book down. It is an exciting story, quick-moving, and reveals a great deal about the inherent conflict between athletics and academics, and the impact that conflict is having on our educational system and on our national competitive edge.

An intensely personal story in a setting of campus politics.
This is a fast-paced, gripping account of a distinguished professor in midlife crises - personal and professional. Easily read, it is difficult to lay aside until finished.

Characters are well developed and the story unfolds flawlessly. Enjoyable and enlightening!

Riveting reading. Excellent writing style.
March Madness first struck me as a exceptionally well written book. It kept my attention from the start. I couldn't put it down until I had completed it. It was especially interesting to me since I work at a university and I am familiar with some of the conflicts that can develop between athletics and academics in a university setting. The two main characters, Dr. Ann Strand and Dr. Ed Edwards, are faculty members of Old South University who develop a romance amidst a swirl of intrigue and murder on the campus. The conflict revolves around a power struggle between athletics and academics after Dr. Strand fails a potential Heisman trophy candidate. I would highly recommend March Madness for interesting, riveting reading.

General Chemistry

Mistakes
This is a very complex textbook with TONS of mistakes within. One example that I remember is on page 85, question #66. It says its composition by mass is 49.4% C, 7.64% H, 17.7% N, 15.3% O, and 10.1% S. When working out this equation it will not come out right, it should be 47.2% C, 6.55% H, 13.0% N, 25.9% O and 7.43% C. I hope some of this helps!

Best Chem text on the market!!!
This is the best general chemistry text on the market. I used Ebbing's text at first, that text is misleading. Lot information is out of date, but in this book everything's very clear.
It's problem solving tips in each section is very helpful. It helped me alot avoiding common errors and clarified many misconceptions.
It REALLY is the best chem text on the market as one of reviewer said. At least much better than two other books i used; one by Ebbing, one by Adkins. Don't buy those books. They're waste of money and probably ruin your clear mastery of chemistry.
This book is nice. With the CD-rom it will be even better.

The Best Out There
I cannot believe somebody has not written a review for this book. I had it for my g. chem. I and II classes. This book should be the standard textbook by which all others should be judged (actually, it's a surprise how this book has not put out of business all others -- I guess people are looking more for attractive subtitles and dazzling covers rather than real science). Together with Serway's "Physics for Scientists and Enginners," I made a 14 in the physical section of the MCAT, or a 99%. (and I'm certainly not a genius -- I just worked hard every day). Highly recommended.

God bless America

Average review score:

Get this Country turned back to God!
This book took me back to 1st grade when we were still allowed to sing "God Bless America" and other historic songs that kids today don't even know because they mention the word GOD! A wonderful little book, it reminded me of how far we've come and how high we've climbed but also how far we've come down the other side of the hill. I truly wish that our kids don't have to be ignorant of the heritage that allowed the foundation of this great country of ours, and that heritage is grounded in the Bible. This book is a gentle reminder of that basic truth. I'm glad my wife picked this book up for me, she picked a definite winner.

Inspirational
This little book is wonderful. I have used it for inspirational programs for the American Legion Auxiliary. Anyone who has faith in the USA should have a copy. It will restore your faith in God and in this great land of ours. Makes a great gift, too.

For Such A Time As This
We need to put this book in the hands of every student in Elem., High School and college. This book tells of the heritage of our country, and why God has blessed America. If we want America to continue being blessed by God we need to heed the lessons from history.

Internet Information Services Administration
Published in Paperback by Que (15 March, 2000)
Authors: Kelli Adam, Lisa Stanley, and Guy Stevens
Average review score:

Eh... a decent primer but not a "definitive" reference.
First of all, I tend to read through material like this rather quickly. That said, it was rather unsettling that there were inaccuracies and outright errors blatant enough for me to catch them in the midst of "speeding" through the text. The technical reviewers really dropped the ball on this one.

An example? Hard drive mirroring (yes, it's mentioned in there) is not RAID Level 5; it's RAID Level 0 -- and more than two drives are required for RAID Level 5 anyway!

There are also quite a few typesetting errors where references to supposed "preceding" illustrations / diagrams actually precede the diagrams being mentioned or where the diagrams do not accurately reflect the material being discussed.

But I digress. This book would be a decent primer for someone new to IIS and looking to deploy basic Web services on a Win2K server, but seasoned IIS admins will be let down. Ms. Adam's book is essentially nothing more than an attempt to flesh out the material contained in the IIS5 readme files and online help.

My advice? If you're new to IIS5, buy the book and use it to get started. If you're not new to IIS, spend your money on something a little more substantial such as the MS Press "Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 Documentation" book.

The Most Practical Guide on IIS Available
I've purchased several books on IIS administration and none of them compare to the quality of both of the content and presentation of the material in this resource. Simply the best IIS resource guide out there.

Required reading for IIS administrators.
This is the defnitive guide for IIS administration on Windows 2000. From security and protocols to database integration, this book sets a solid foundation for building a robust and efficient real-world web server. There is no better text that I've found for getting the latest version of IIS up and running smoothly and quickly. This book should have been shipped with the product.

An Introduction to the Problems of Legal Theory
Published in Hardcover by Clarendon Pr (August, 1996)
Authors: Hans Kelsen, Stanley L. Paulson, and Bonnie L. Paulson
Average review score:

International Positivism
Paulson has carved himself the Kelsen niche in the cathedral of Positivism.

The Best and Briefest Introduction to Kelsen
Hans Kelsen in the most important legal theorist of the 20th century. This short book is the best introduction to his third way between empiricist and natural law approaches in the philosophy of law. The density of Kelsen's prose is alleviated in part by Paulson's excellent introduction. An important book.

Very similar to the Pure Theory of Law
Excellent book, but I think it is the same book as The Pure Theory of Law, or at least very similar.

Macroeconomics
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Irwin (13 October, 2000)
Authors: Rudiger Dornbusch, Stanley Fischer, and Richard Startz
Average review score:

Good Explanation of Macroeconomics
My major is in international business and this was my second course in macro. I found this to be a solid book in explaning the concepts.
My favourite part of the book was where they develop a model of the macro economy of a country - and explanin how the monetary and fiscal policy can alter how the economy moves. In light of the recent dip in the economy this was very useful in understanding why the Fed behaves the way it does.
Highly recommended for macro economics!

You Can Do This
If the 8th edition is anywhere near as clear and accessible as the 2nd, then this is THE book to learn macro from. Dornbusch et. al. have done a masterful job of laying out intermediate macro theory in clear and concise prose. It's the kind of book that makes you want to know more.

Keep it. You'll refer to it every once in while. I still do after 20 years. Lots of good econ guys at MIT (big surprise there, right?).

Check out Paul Krugman's popular work too, particularly the highly readable "The Return of Depression Economics," his analysis of the 1997 Asian Flu that started in Thailand. Good background for Act II of Monetary Crises and Emerging Markets starring Treasury Secretary O'Neill and George Bush, now playing in Argentina, Turkey, SE Asia, and geopolitical spheres of influence worldwide.

macroeconomics made simple
this is the best textbook available--its easy to understand, lively and well written

MacRoeconomics
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Irwin (September, 1993)
Authors: Rudiger Dornbusch and Stanley Fischer
Average review score:

great book for starters in economic theory ,esp for students
It's a great book for first year business students and all those who want to learn something about basic principles of macroeconomics and the influence it has on everyday business activities

A great introduction to macroeconomic theory
In comparison with other macroeconomic texts around it should get 5 stars. It starts with a historical perspective of the crisis in economics at the time of Keynes, setting the picture for why anyone bothered to invent macroeconomics in the first place. It then rapidly proceeds to introduce the major schools of macroeconomics and to develop the relevant ideas and models. It is an ideal introduction for the interested or serious student and manages to be exciting as well as fairly comprehensive. If you're taking an introductory macroeconomics course, get this book instead of your text. If you're coming from outside the economics profession and have a mind of your own, this ones for you.

Great Book - Samuelson and Nordhaus Are Awesome
This is a classic Macro text used for many Intro to Macro-Econ.

I used a similiar text (many editions before) when I took my first econ class in college over 10 yrs ago.

This is a great book, easy to understand and fluid reading.

Thumbs Up!!!
